Social Media Marketing Mistakes You Should Avoid

From personal experience, I can tell you that, like anything, there are many mistakes that can be made when marketing on social media. Every day is a learning experience, but I do think it is important to learn from your mistakes.

In this blog post, you will find my top three mistakes that I have made when social media marketing and tips on how you can avoid them.

1. Thinking I Didn't Need A Social Media Strategy

When I first started my social media for Engaged Media Solutions I had no real plans. I knew that I wanted to get the word out about my new business, but I didn't have a strategy based on this objective. After a month of not getting the results, I knew that I had to make a change.

Avoid this mistake by creating a good social media strategy that has goals, target audiences, tactics, time, and a great team behind it. Set predefined and measurable goals for your strategy and create plans to attain those goals. Learn more about how to create a social media strategy here.

2. Trying To Talk To Everyone

A month ago I wrote a blog post called, How I Found My Ideal Niche. I was feeling somewhat lost the first month of starting my business. There was so much to learn and so many new things to try, but the one BIG thing I was missing was my niche. I was putting content out into the world, but I was not talking to anyone specific and that is why I was feeling lost.

Avoid this mistake by taking 30 minutes today to sit down and brainstorming what you think your ideal niche may look like. Write down your top ten passions and interests and look for something that you truly feel passion for. Trust me, once you figure it out everything will click into place. 3. Forgetting to Diversify

My last mistake for this blog post is a recent one, that I am still working to correct. I have learned that followers do not only want to see one type of content. Some people like videos while others may like pictures. I was only posting pictures for awhile and I saw the bad that came from this.

Avoid this mistake by mixing up your content. One day post your own blog post, video, or photo and the next post content that is relevant to your audience's interests. Diversifying your content will help to keep followers engaged. Learn more about diversifying your content here.
