This week Maker Maven brought in the start of fall activities with a fun, easy, and somewhat messy STEAM Challenge! I am all about making learning fun, so we had to try it.
The challenge was simple. All that you need is a mini pumpkin, baking soda, dish soap, vinegar, a measuring spoon and a tray. We took the challenge outside because it was nice this week. Plus, the challenge does get messy.
To create the chemical reaction you simply add two spoonfuls of baking soda into the mini pumpkin and a few drops of dish soap. Here comes the fun part...add the vinegar! For full instructions visit Maker Maven's post.
To take this challenge even further I recommend letting students explore chemical reactions on their own. Let students take ownership of their learning and create their own explanation.
Next, use Flipgrid to let students add their own videos explaining what a chemical reaction is in their own words. Let them get creative!
All my best,
